Church Revitalization
If GBC was to continue to grow then it is essential to pray together and to pray alone. No revival or spiritual awakening has ever occurred with out prayer. So, Once the church has admitted that it is time to do something then the next step is prayer. Here is the problem.
Crucial Issue #2: Prayerlessness.
While each of our churches undoubtedly have some sort of prayer service or prayer ministry in our church life, the consensus of the "experts" is that most of our prayer dynamics center almost exclusively upon our "health & wealth" needs. As one speaker at the Revitalization Conference said:" the current focus in our churches upon "intercession" at the expense of all other biblical principles in prayer is a death-nail to our prayer life." The speakers indicated that we need more of the following in our prayer ministries:
1. Adoration of our Lord
-the Almighty One of the Universe Who never loses and can bring revival at the drop of a hat
How did Jesus begin the prayer that His disciples asked Him to teach "Our Father in Heaven, Hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, Your Will be done."
-pray for the Lord to show us His powerful hand
-pray for the King of His to "send the fire" to fall on us again
2. Confession and Repentance notice Jesus included "And forgive us our debt as we forgive our debtor"
-personal brokenness over our individual sinfulness asking for a cleansing (1 John 1:9)
-church brokenness over our propensity to be self-focused and unconcerned for the un-churched around us
-church repentance over holding on to our traditions and preferences at the expense of the growth of the Kingdom
3. Thanksgiving for what God has already done for us and what He is going to do in the future.
4. Supplication
-deep prayer for change, renewal, holiness, passion, joy, excitement, and expectation in our Kingdom ministries
-prayer for self-focused hearts to be broken and bent toward Him
So if you are reading this and you think, I want to be part of that. Let me invite you to pray with a prayer group on Wednesday's (check website for rotating locations), and to GBC on Fridays at 11:00. In these prayer times, you will hear and witness the above things being done.
God Bless
See ya next Thursday Rev. Eddie
